2019 HAIRCARE LINE LAUNCH SUPPORT

  • Nick Stenson, celebrity hair stylist and the VP of Ulta Beauty, came to Taylor & Pond seeking help bringing his vision for a new hair care line to life. His mission was to deliver a luxurious hair care experience that harnessed the power of natural ingredients. We were tasked with developing the overall creative direction through packaging concepts alongside the execution of a retail pitch deck for Ulta.

  • My involvement was in the early phases of the line’s development. This fast-paced project spanned over the course of a few weeks from ideation to execution. I spearheaded the art direction, executed the packaging concepts with help from a 3D specialist and designed the retail pitch deck which included numerous additional marketing mockups. Throughout the project, I worked closely with our internal marketing experts, Nick and his team to ensure every touch point aligned with their needs.

  • Exceeding client expectations every step of the way, our work yielded a successful pitch to Ulta where they immediately said yes to the brand. Due to limited start-up costs and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the brand had to pause production and execute final packaging designs elsewhere, resulting in the final designs shifting, but eventually having a prosperous launch with tons of positive feedback on social media and continued success and growth over the years.

Packaging Concepts

Of the three initial art directions pitched, two were combined to create the final desired look. The concepts featured sophisticated, natural textures in a feminine color palette to balance the edgy, rectilinear product forms. The client initially sought fully customized packaging, so I collaborated with a 3D specialist to develop unique bottles and branded caps across the line. Certain design elements were omitted to reduce startup costs, including custom rectilinear nozzles and pump forms, an embossed metallic monogram of the logo on the top of the caps and a luxurious marble design to bring emphasis to certain skus that were later omitted to reduce cost.

In-store Display Mockups

Numerous preliminary, Ulta-specific display concepts were mocked up for the retail pitch deck. This included end caps, inline displays, free-standing table displays, shelf talkers, and more.
